Hydraulic elevators raise the car on a piston driven by a power pack, which means the machinery sits at the bottom of the shaft rather than above it. That makes them the practical answer for low-rise buildings, heritage structures and any site where you cannot build an overhead machine room or where the roof cannot take the load.
They suit travel heights up to roughly six floors and are commonly used for home lifts, small commercial buildings and goods platforms.
